Adbot?!

I used the random blog button today, and the first blog I got was one advertising a hip flexor dvd. By the looks of it, their sole post is from this month unless it was forward dated, making it seem extremely recent.

Anyway, this made me think about how adbots and such are just not going to work that well here. The search is interest based rather than post content based, making it very hard for ad blogs to pop up in the search unless they take the time to add interests to their lists. They can’t make people subscribe to them, meaning it’s pretty much impossible for them to appear in reading lists. These blogs are pretty much self contained and unable to get anything done unless they try commenting on posts (which can be deleted by whoever made the original post), try subscribing to other accounts (and they can be blocked by whoever they subscribe to, with a real and effective block), or someone stumbles on them via the random blog button.

And I’m willing to bet if I report it Dreamwidth will do something about it, rather than ignore it like Tumblr would. I’m just gonna go do that.

Gardening!

Short version: Making plans to garden again this spring!

Long version: After going through my seed packets and clearing out the really old ones, I'm left with seven packets (sage, oregano, thyme, basil, cilantro, peas, and broccoli). I already have thyme from last year, so I won't be planting that again this year, but the remaining six will likely be planted this year.

Sometime soon I'll have to get an indoor starter kit so I can start the sage and oregano ahead of the last frost, so we'll see if I can get to the Canadian Tire tomorrow for that. Might grab a few more seeds while I'm at it, with the most likely picks being lettuce, beans, beets/turnips, and maybe catnip?

My other plan for gardening this spring is to move my thyme to its own pot to get it away from my mom's mint plant. (Mint likes to spread a lot, and I'd rather not have it try to overtake my thyme. At least the mint is in a pot and contained.)

And below the cut, a picture of my thyme )
